Gregorz Matlag from label Maldoror belongs to the most intriguing and thought-provoking designers in the Polish fashion industry. His fashion shows repeatedly cause a stir.
Last season he showed his collection on a group of skinheads who didn’t walk the catwalk but were standing in a corner. The fashion crowd ran towards them to inspect them and take photos.
The message behind the stunt: Society is bigger and stronger than a rather small minority group of Nazis.
For the Spring/Summer 2013 collection Designer Matlag came up with a polarizing concept again.
Matlag had a press release sent out a few days before his show, announcing that a woman that is suspected of child murder will present his Spring/Summer 2013 designs. People were horrified.
However, in the end the situation didn’t escalate. After the show Matlag explained it was never his intention to have the suspected child murder walk the runway. He just wanted to set an incentive to think about the relevance of celebrities.
The lady in question, whose name we won’t mention here, is a regular in Polish talk shows. Surprising. As opposed to Matlags concepts his fashion lacks inspiration. Latex, leather, see-through – no visionary fashion.
